What preparation is needed for the surface before applying Mineral Silicate Paint?
The substrate must be dry and sound, absorbent, non-chalking, clean, free from dust and grease. Remove any brittle or loose particles by water jet or mechanical means. Any old coatings or film forming coatings, may weaken the vapour permeability and adhesion, so should be removed for best result. Fill and match any affected substrates with a suitable and similar repair material. If it is not of the same texture, the Mineral Silicate Paint will highlight those areas as they have different porosity. When applying the Peter Lewis Paints Mineral Silicate Paint to previously painted surfaces, first apply our Lime Proof Undercoat allowing it to dry as per instructions.
Along with the preparation of the substrate to be painted, please cover and protect all areas which are not to be coated, especially glass, natural stone, and ceramics as our Mineral Silicate Paint is alkaline, and will react to these surfaces, causing etching. If any contact occurs with these materials, it must be cleaned off immediately with water.

Mix thoroughly before use and check colour. Do not dilute as thinning breaks down the cross linking of the water glass, making it less effective, and voiding any warranties. The product can be applied with a brush, roller or spray. For brush application use cross hatching, always being sure to keep a wet edge. For roller application, roll from one edge to the other edge, being mindful of keeping a wet edge alive. For spray application use an airless spray gun. Regardless of application style, please allow 24 hours between coats and 48 hours for the paint to fully cure, depending on atmospheric conditions.
